Patti was diagnosed with early stage II (HR+, HER2-) breast cancer in 2008 after a change in her career path from pre-clinical research to clinical cancer research. It was incidental that she was surrounded with cancer experts at work who guided her treatments.
My Story
She participated in a clinical trial for early-stage BC patients. She continued working in cancer research and followed standard treatments but unfortunately was diagnosed with metastatic disease nine years later. She ended up taking the new CDK4-6 inhibitor she worked on in clinical development which received FDA approval the same month as her diagnosis (Oct. 2017). She remains on this first line of MBC treatment and commends research for the gift of time.
Patti is a graduate of NBCC's Project LEAD. Her advocacy includes being a consumer reviewer and mentor for the DOD CDMRP Breast Cancer Research Program and a board member for Look Beyond Cancer. She is a Cancer Action Network volunteer for the America Cancer Society, and a mentor with GRASP - Guiding Researchers and Advocates to Scientific Partnerships (graspcancer.org). This year Patti was the recipient of Twisted Pink's Robert L Delaby Award which included sponsorship to attend the American Society of Clinical Oncologists (ASCO) 2022 annual meeting.
Patti thanks her friends and family for their unconditional love and support. She lives in Henderson, NV with her husband of 28 years and is devoted to her grandchildren, both two legged and four legged! She enjoys down time with her dog, horses and chickens.
