Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation (ABCF) launched its HELPLINE in 1994. The purpose of the HELPLINE is to give patients, their families and caregivers ongoing support and information.

 

The HELPLINE is staffed by trained volunteers who all have had a breast cancer experience and are now survivors wanting to help others. Our volunteers offer the following services:

• Information on breast cancer and breast health

​

• Emotional support for women and men with breast cancer as well as families and caregivers of those affected through referral to a specific breast cancer survivor with similar circumstances (type of cancer, type of treatment, age group)

​

• Patient navigation to healthcare services for uninsured/under insured women and men — that is, (1) location of, and eligibility for, low-cost or free mammograms and other diagnostic tests available in South Texas and (2) referral to other healthcare services such as WINGS (Women Involved in Nurturing, Giving and Sharing), which funds treatment for the uninsured or under insured

• Information on other community resources for breast cancer patients, for example, support groups and where to find wigs, scarves, prostheses, etc.

To have a breast cancer survivor return your call, please call the telephone number above and leave your name, telephone number (please repeat clearly) and a brief message. There are bilingual volunteers available to return messages left in Spanish.
