Denise M. Barlow, BSN, JD

Columbus, OH, United States

I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in 2004 while active duty as a U.S. Air Force nurse officer. I was in a clinical trial for dose dense chemotherapy and have had no evidence of breast cancer since completing treatment

My Story

I have lymphedema in my right arm. I became a member of the Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation in 2005 and served as a board member for several years. I have been a member of the Alamo Advocate Program committee for the past eight years. I retired from the Air Force in 2005. In 2010, I attended NBCC's Project LEAD and started law school at St Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas, while continuing to work as a hospital nursing supervisor. I have been a reviewer for the DoD Breast Cancer Research Program and am currently an advocate for research projects in both south Texas and central Ohio. In 2018, I retired from nursing and bought a condo in Columbus Ohio. I currently spend my time between San Antonio and Columbus, where my two grandchildren live.
