Dr. Baas also serves as the National Patient Advocate for the Physical Sciences in Oncology Network (PS-ON) at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Drawing upon her background in research and academia as well as from her personal experience with cancer—Dr. Baas has a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Texas A&M University—she volunteers as a liaison between the scientists and the cancer patient community, coordinating advocacy activities within the 28 Network Centers and Projects. She is an Advocate in Science for Susan G. Komen; a member of the Cancer Research Advocate, Breast Cancer, and the Experimental Imaging Sciences Committees at ECOG-ACRIN; a RISE Legacy Advocate for the Young Survival Coalition (YSC); an Advisory Board member of the DoD-funded Convergent Science Virtual Cancer Center; and a member of the Baylor Research Institute IRB in Dallas, TX. Additionally, she serves on the External Advisory Board and the Community Advisory Board at UT Southwestern. She has been Advocate Faculty at the ASCO/AACR Methods in Clinical Cancer Research Workshop since 2017.
