Recognizing the need of those recently diagnosed or living with breast cancer to talk with someone who has had this traumatic, life-altering experience, Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation launched its Helpline in 1994.
The Helpline is staffed by trained volunteers who all have had a breast cancer experience and are now survivors wanting to help others.
Our volunteers offer the following services:
- Information on breast cancer;
- Support for women and men with breast cancer as well as families of those affected;
- Information on breast health and other breast issues;
- Location of, and eligibility for, low-cost or free mammograms, other diagnostic tests available to South Texans;
- Information on community resources for breast cancer patients;
- Referral to a specific person with similar circumstances (type of cancer, treatment, age group).
To have a breast cancer survivor return your call, please call the phone number and leave your name, phone number (please repeat) and a brief message.
Our message center is operated between 9am and 9pm, although you may leave a call back message
anytime of the day or night.
We have Spanish-speaking survivors available to return messages left in Spanish.
The Helpline number may also be used for contacting our administrative staff.
