Advocacy
The Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation,
a member of the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC),
runs a grassroots advocacy program to eradicate the
presence of breast cancer in our society. Our efforts
are to:
|
 |
Increase funding for breast cancer research. |
 |
Promote research into the cause, cure, and prevention of
breast cancer. |
 |
Improve
access to high quality screening, diagnosis and treatment
for all women.
|
 |
Increase
the involvement of those living with breast cancer on research
and legislation.
|
We are accomplishing this through
the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium Advocate Program, Action Network, PAIR, Team Leadership Training, PROJECT LEAD,
and the NBCC Annual Advocacy Training Conference.
|
|
San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium Advocate Scholarship Program
We distribute scholarships to patient advocates nationwide
so they may attend the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium.
The advocates learn about recent breast cancer research
and disseminate the information to their local organizations.
The 31st
Annual San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium will
take place December 9-13, 2008 at the Henry B. Gonzalez
Convention Center, San Antonio, TX.

Action Network
Join our network
of individuals who respond to pending local, state, and
federal legislation. When an alert is received from Washington
or Austin, you will be notified and given background information
on the issue, as well as the text of a message to be sent
to the appropriate people (or you may choose to write your
own letter if you wish) and their address, phone number,
FAX, or e-mail. Much of the success of breast cancer legislation
nationally and locally is due to grassroots efforts such
as this; it is crucial that we enlist as many members as
possible and that we respond quickly to alerts. Join

NBCC Annual Advocacy Training Conference
During four days of workshops, training sessions, and networking,

medical practice, learn about the latest in breast cancer
research and science, and sharpen their skills as advocates.
The latest conference was held in Arlington, VA on April
28 - May 1, 2007. Representatives of ABCF attended the
conference to learn how to become better advocates.
Members interested in attending future sessions should contact Joy
